The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to launch in the next couple of months, while the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are rumored to arrive early next year. Apple is expected to follow this new launch phase strategy for the upcoming generations as well.
Although the launch of the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e is still several months away, leaks and rumors about the devices have already started surfacing. A recent report from a well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed the memory configuration changes that we will get to see on the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
According to the report, both the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, which are expected to be powered by Apple’s A20 chip, could feature 9GB of RAM instead of the 8GB available in the iPhone 17 devices. The increase is said to come from a new memory setup using 6 dies of 1.5GB, replacing the 4 dies of 2GB used in iPhone 17 lineup.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the increase in memory is intended to better support the growing AI workload of AI features introduced with iOS 27. The AI features will only continue to grow with new updates. With more RAM, the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to handle Apple Intelligence features more efficiently, resulting in faster AI processing and overall response.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro models (including foldable) are expected to feature the more powerful A20 Pro chip paired with 12GB of RAM. According to the report, this memory confirmation will use eight 1.5GB memory dies. The two iPhone 18 Pro models and the foldable iPhone are expected to follow Apple’s traditional launch schedule and debut in September.
